My folks used to have a little glass text decoration of a proverb, placed in our livingroom window on the sill. I'd often sit on the chair by that window and read it as I looked out on the mountains that surrounded our home, and I memorized it after a while: "A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with the breath of kindness blow the rest away." What a gift to have a friend like that. What a gift to be a friend like that.
