As creators, it's our responsibility to entertain. We're storytellers, artists. Not activists. Nothing, and I mean nothing, should ever trump creativity. What is happening in now comics, film, gaming, etc., is activism, not creativity. Great piece.
Great column/interview. Would love to see a similar one with Archie. He was always just a character to me as a cartoon version of him would often appear at the end of books related to the bullpen, the letters column.
The Denny O’Neil Batman/Green Lantern comics of the 70s were instrumental to me becoming a comics fan (although I have to admit the Neal Adams art probably had more to do with it than the stories). I always processed the GL/GA stories as hippie influenced/of their time, more than political per se. But I guess it makes sense that Denny was a card-carrying liberal.
